Interest
Downtown Lincoln boasts a wealth of historic and
architecturally significant structures, including: the
Nebraska State Capital, the Old Federal Building, the
Ferguson House, the Thomas P. Kennard House and the
Historic Haymarket.
Transportation
Living in Downtown puts you right “where the
action is.” You don’t need a parking space when
attending a special event, and you can have a tailgate
party on your front porch or balcony on Big Red home game
days. Downtown is also the hub of Lincoln’s
public transportation system, StarTran, which offers frequent connections to all parts of the
city. StarTran is safe, affordable and reliable.
Recreational Opportunities
A paved and protected bike trail runs through the
eastern edge of the neighborhood. Other bike paths wind
through the University campus. There is easy access to
the Woods Park pool for outdoor swimming, and to Antelope
Park for swimming and other outdoor activities.
Neighborhood residents can enjoy many University
recreational activities as participants or spectators,
while the YMCA and the YWCA offer indoor swimming, weight
training, and a wide variety of classes.
Schools
Rich, multi-cultural educational experiences are
offered to children who live Downtown. McPhee and
Elliott Elementary Schools, Park Middle School and
Lincoln High serve neighborhood children. St.
Mary’s, a Catholic elementary school, provides an
education alternative for Downtown children.
Services
The Downtown Senior Center, the Hispanic Community
Center and the League of Human Dignity offer an array of
services and activities.
